{"id":1339,"date":"2022-02-15T17:25:08","date_gmt":"2022-02-15T17:25:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/entrian.com\/blog\/?p=1339"},"modified":"2022-02-15T17:25:08","modified_gmt":"2022-02-15T17:25:08","slug":"source-search-1-8-3-fixes-and-features","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entrian.com\/blog\/source-search-1-8-3-fixes-and-features\/","title":{"rendered":"Entrian Source Search 1.8.3: Various fixes and features"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m very pleased to announce the release of Entrian Source Search 1.8.3, which adds these features to the command line program ess.exe:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The returned <strong>errorlevel<\/strong> is now more sensible:<ul><li><strong>0<\/strong> for success; for the search command an errorlevel of 0 means that some results were found.<\/li><li><strong>1<\/strong> for a search with no errors but no results.<\/li><li><strong>2<\/strong> for errors.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Errors are now written to stderr rather than stdout<\/li><li>There is now a <strong>-showcount<\/strong> switch, which prints the number of hits at the end of the results.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Visual Studio extension has <strong>one new feature<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The context menu for the results list has new command &#8220;Copy list of all filenames (without duplicates)&#8221;.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And some <strong>bugs have been squashed<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>When loading a solution in Visual Studio 2022, Source Search now correctly loads your index every time, rather than sometimes failing and telling you there&#8217;s no index loaded.<\/li><li>Source files in UTF-8 with no BOM are now much more reliably detected; by default Source Search asks Windows to detect the encoding, and it often gets it wrong for UTF-8 files.<\/li><li>When Windows says that a file is ASCII-encoded, Source Search now treats it as codepage 1252.
