The problems include:
-
Poor linkage to the non-Outlook applications: Pop3Proxy, ImapFilter and SbFilter.
-
Poor documentation on how to download and install Python. (Should the Python website not have something about this that we can just link to? --TonyMeyer)
-
Poor documentation on how to download and install Spambayes (for non-Outlook users).
-
Enormous FAQ which is difficult to browse.
-
Lack of user-focussed navigation system.
-
No clues as to where different classes of user (non-technical / admin / programmer / reviewer / etc.) should go.
-
No search capability - not even a quick-and-dirty Google search box like we have (had?) for the mailing list archives.
-
One good resource: http://diveintopython.org/installing_python/
-
Would a wiki be better?
-
try something like this in the google search box "site:http://mail.python.org/pipermail/spambayes SEARCHTHIS" - personally I would pefer a (discussion-) board/forum because of the better features (archive, searchable, easier to use, better overview) --GuenterGro
There are a few things that are necessary, though, at least IMO (TonyMeyer):
-
The tools needed to edit must be free and cross-platform. Python and a text editor is good.
-
It must be simple to make changes and push them to the live site.
-
Since it's hosted on Sourceforge, what is allowed/provided by Sourceforge (DB, scripting, upload/storage ability) and what would need to be located remotely?
-
Blogging software? It's not ideal & usually runs on PHP, but many are good multi-user CMSs.
This isn't an attack on the developers (I'm one of them!) but the website isn't our core focus.
This area of the Wiki (and by "this area" I mean any pages beginning with WebSite - feel free to add more pages - HowToContribute has details) is for the developers and users of SpamBayes to sketch out improvements to the SpamBayes website...
